Buying a Home?

Free Home Buyers Pre-Purchase Education Classes

Buying a Home is one of the most important purchases you will ever undertake. The Open Door Counseling Center specializes in assisting first-time homebuyers with understanding and preparing for buying a home. Some special loan programs require completion of a homebuyer education program to participate.

The Pre-Purchase Housing Counseling class is free.

You will learn about all aspects of buying a home. Planning begins with how to save for your purchase, how to set realistic goals, and what steps you need to take to achieve your dream of owning a home.

Financing: How and why to get pre-approved for a loan, choose a lender, what types of financing and assistance programs are available, and the pros and cons of each, will be explained.

Purchasing: You will be led through the residential real estate purchase contract, learning who represents the buyer and the seller, what obligations each has, what contingencies and timelines are included, and how long the whole process may take.

For those who want more in-depth home buyer education, you may enroll in additional one-on-one and group sessions.

Friendly, HUD-approved housing counselors will guide you and answer your questions in a relaxed atmosphere. Buying a home is a complex process that can be stressful. These classes are highly recommended. Learning what is involved and how to confidently move forward at every step removes most of the stress and makes buying a home an exciting, satisfying, and even fun, process.
